COMMISSIONS

I am a portrait artist working mostly in oils from my studio in Leicester. I treat my subjects with honesty and like to use colour and bold mark making to describe my subjects. I'd be delighted to quote for and discuss any possible commission.

PROCESS.
Typically after discussing what the client would like the portrait to reflect I'll do some preliminary sketches before deciding on the colour palette, lighting and mood. I will then take a number of photos and produce preliminary sketches to get to know the sitter and play around with the composition. If the sitter's time is limited I'm happy to work from photography alone. I try to communicate the personality, life and character of the sitter to the viewer while always maintaining an accurate likeness. I'm happy for the sitter to collaborate as much as they like and encourage their thoughts and input.

SKY ARTS PORTRAIT ARTIST OF THE YEAR

In 2019 I was selected to appear on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year.  It brings together some of the best amateur and professional artist in the UK to compete for the title.
The show is presented by Joan Bakewell and Stephen Mangan and judged by Kathleen Soriano, Kate Bryan and Tai-Shan Schierenberg. In my heat the sitters were Fearne Cotton, John Cooper Clarke and Haydn Gwynne.
Selection for the competition was based on submission of a self portrait which you can see above.
Conditions were very challenging and I was well and truly out of my comfort zone! But I was pleased to be selected in the top three from my heat and was honoured that Fearne chose my portrait of her.  Even though I didn't make it through to the semi finals I am so grateful for what was a  truly fascinating, exciting and nerve wracking experience in equal measure
